Ellen Baily "Evolution"
Scholars say mankind is a product of evolution
Citing many textbooks for their conclusion
They say man is a descendant of the ape
That there is no Heaven; no Pearly Gate
Scholars say mankind is a product of evolution
And some argue for this man made solution
But God created Earth and God created Man
Why is this so hard for them to understand?
Scholars say mankind is a product of evolution
And this muddled thinking has lead to confusion
Maybe man does act like a monkey sometimes
But it's God's help they seeks when in a bind
This poem is generally explaining the argument between science and religion. The scholars are stating that human kind came from an ape, and how there is no scientific evidence that God really does exist. They state that mankind was made from the evolution, but others state that this theory is a man mad solution. The speaker is wondering how hard is it for people to understand that God created this earth and everything in it. The speaker sums up the poem with explaining that even though the scholars think that man has evolved through evolution and mankind may act like a monkey sometimes, but in the end man will always seek God’s help for getting through the tough times. The reason I chose this poem is because I am just coming back into religion. I can see the argument from both ends, but understand what the speaker is explaining that when people seem to have problems in their life, they turn to God. I was raised in a religious home, but never really seemed to believe it myself. Up until now, I was more on the side of evolution.
